Using authority scores sensibly
- Compare, don't worship. No authority score is a Google metric. Use them to compare sites, not as a verdict.
- Relevance beats raw authority. A link from a smaller site in your niche can be worth more than one from an unrelated big site.
- Check the linking page too. Use our free Link Checker to confirm a page really links to you, and whether that link is dofollow.

Authority checker questions
Where do the DA, PA and Spam Score come from?
Domain Authority (DA), Page Authority (PA) and Spam Score are Moz metrics, loaded through the Moz API. DA rates the whole domain from 1 to 100, PA rates the home page, and Spam Score is the percentage of sites with similar features that were penalised by Google.
What is a good DA or PA?
There is no universal good score, because DA is relative. Compare a site with others in the same niche: 1–20 is typical of new or small sites, 20–40 of established small businesses, 40–60 of strong niche sites, and 60+ of major brands and publishers.
What does Spam Score mean?
Spam Score is the percentage of websites with similar features that Google has penalised or banned. 1–30% is low, 31–60% medium and 61–100% high. A high score is a reason to look closer, not proof that a site is spam.
What is the Authority Score?
Our own 0–100 score built from open data, shown next to DA as a second opinion. It is the domain's Open PageRank (0–10, from the Common Crawl link graph) multiplied by 10. When that isn't available we estimate it from Tranco popularity and mark it “estimated”.
What is Tranco rank?
Tranco is a research ranking of popular websites, combining several popularity lists over 30 days. A lower number means a more popular website. Most small and new websites are unranked, which is normal.
Why does domain age matter?
Domain age is the time since the domain was first registered, read from public RDAP records. Older domains have had more time to earn links. Age alone doesn't make a site trustworthy, but a very new domain with a high score deserves a closer look.
